F2F. VISITING AN ART MUSEUM

 A. KEY VOCABULARY 

Contemporary - this type of art simply means any art that is happening in the current period of time.

Portrait - a painting or other artistic representation of a person, particularly shown the face, mood or personality.

Landscape - a depiction of natural scenery, such as mountains, trees, rivers or forests.

Ancient Art - art from ancient cultures, which could include  writing, drawing or household objects.

Impressionism - painting which uses small, thin brush strokes with a focus on how light changes a scene.

Renaissance - this art movement began in the 1400s, inspired by ancient Greek and Roman styles. The focus is usually on people and the joys of life, or realistic 3D sculptures.

Romanticism - a type of art where emotion is more important than reality. It is often mistrustful of human and shows a love of nature.

Sculpture - 3D art, usually created using stone, metal or wood.

Realism - this art movement aims to show life as it really is, often focusing on worker's daily lives.

'Girl before a mirror' is reminiscent of (to be similar tomany other works from the modernist and cubist periods of the early 20th century.
Picasso incorporates (includes) bold colors and broad brushstrokes in order to create a vibrant portrait that leaps from the page.
In this interpretation, Picasso portrays (shows) the reflected image in gloomy, dull colors, but opts for (chooseswarmer tones in the left image.
Other have argued that Picasso depicts (showsthe girl confronting an image of her older self, insisting that the artist utilizes (useslooser lines to show the effects of the gravity that come with age.
